Dear family, starting this Sunday I will be starting a series about evangelism. We all have heard of the “Roman Roads” or “Four Spiritual Laws” or Personal Evangelism, but Jesus Evangelism is the best of all methods that we have come up with. We know that our goal is to see as many people as possible come to heaven with us, but the problem is we don’t truly take it to heart…make it a reality in our lives. If you like football you know what JV stands for – Junior Varsity, 2nd team; one more years until you are on the Varsity, playing before the big crowds on Friday nights. You are almost there.
The only way a JV player gets to the Varsity squad is through an injury to a Varsity player. Many Christians never make it to the Varsity squad because they learn to really put forth the effort and therefore, relegated to playing on Thursday nights for their entire lives.
The Apostle John said in John 9:4 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” God has told us to be “salt and light”, to show people Jesus Christ by “servant evangelism” as well as many other ways of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I want you to burn this statement in your spirit;
- “Live your life in such a way that you make it hard for others to go to hell.”
It is impossible for you to grow in your faith if you are not giving your faith away! When was the last time you truly evangelized; witnessed; shared your faith; went to a bad part of town to tell others about Jesus? I never went into a bar until I was a Christian. I went there to tell people about Jesus. I sat down at the bar or a table, ordered a Coke and struck up a conversation. Pastor, what will people say if I did something like that? The same things people said about Jesus. We should be ministering at Main Street, Stubby’s and a dozen other places…”go to the highways and byways and compel them to come in.” It is impossible for you to grow in your faith if you are not giving your faith away! Now we also need to evangelize our homes, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, where ever we are, preach the word through our words and actions.
People who are open to the Gospel message are people who are in trouble, have tension in their lives or in transition. Do you know someone who is in trouble? Dealing with tense situations at home, the job, kids, marriage, finances; in transition, moving into a new city? We all do and I pray we will “work now because night is falling and soon we will not be able to work anymore.”
Dear NCC Family, let’s get off the JV and join the Varsity squad. Let’s get busy bringing the message of God’s love to them. God bless and happy evangelism.
