Needville Community Church

The Blessings of God

This morning I had breakfast with Jose Orellana and Jerry Carnes at the Jay Café. It’s a great place on Hwy. 36 in Needville across the street from the new high school. It was a time of just enjoying a good breakfast (the biscuits and sausage gravy are fantastic) good friends and conversation.

We talked about work, family, politics, our board meeting tonight and our daily purpose as fully devoted followers of Christ. I was suddenly taken back by the wonderful blessings God had already given me today. I had rolled out of a warm bed, kissed my beautiful, wonderful wife, made coffee, the bed and other things so my wife can get ready for work, she’s a teacher, I try to do all I can for her because I know what she is going to have to deal with throughout the day. I take my medicine for my diabetes and thank God I have ExpressScripts which saves me hundreds each month.

I have a good work car and the blessing of not having to deal with Houston traffic --- I go opposite of the traffic on my way to work and back.

Then I get to the Jay Café and meet my good friends, Tim the owner, and a great waitress who waited on us hand and foot. Psalms 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Too often we think that means something outrageous, enormous, or incredible. It can but it also means the simple blessings we tend to overlook each and every day. I want to encourage you to take you iphone; notepad or whatever you use and write down the simple blessings you receive everyday. At the end of your day you will be amazed at how much you are blessed each and everyday by a loving God. It’s like the old song says, “Count your blessings. Name them one by one and you will be amazed at what the Lord has done.” Today, count your blessings.

I want to invite you, your family and your friends this Sunday to NCC. Remember breakfast is at 9:00 a.m. It’s a great breakfast with casseroles, biscuits, sausage, grits, gravy, waffles, coffees, teas, orange and apple juices and often some surprises. At 10:00 a.m. we meet for Worship and the Word. I will be speaking on Leave No One Behind: God’s Promise to Bring Our Lost Loved Ones Home. This week my sermon is entitles, Hold On To God’s Promise. We also have Kidtricity, for kids 4 years – 5th Grades and a Nursery for children 0 - 3 years. We hope you will join us this Sunday. God bless you and I love you.
